Anomalies in the Earth's magnetic field

Some years ago I put together a circuit to continuously measure and record the local magnetic field (Simi Valley, CA). The components used are a Sentron CSA-1V Hall Effect sensor with a few supporting components (Single-Ended mode output) and a Dataq DI-148U Data Logger. The data logger was calibrated to display in Gauss (using manufacturer spec sheet and verified with a NIST traceable Gauss meter). Typically the field varies a little - approximately 0.5 to 0.8 Gauss. However, there were instances of some very large spikes in the field (5 to 25 Gauss) lasting from 20 minutes to a few hours) and sometimes recurring several times. On 6 occasions these anomalies preceded local earthquakes by 24 to 72 hours (magnitude approximately 3 to 5). One anomaly of about 7 Gauss had no related event and 2 earthquakes occurred without any preceding anomalies. I also get a very consistent record of the Schumann Resonance Frequencies in the noise on the magnetic level (using the data logger's FFT function) - this didn't vary with the events.
To make things a little more interesting a very similar magnetic anomaly showed up (3rd party observation) within the same time frame prior to the Japan earthquake/tsunami on March 11, 2011.
I would like to expand this over a larger geographical area. Also, I am keeping an open mind and drawing no conclusions about these observations. Participation in repeating the experiment and/or opinions are the goal of this group. See examples below.

Unexplained Sounds Heard - Origins Unknown

For some time now, people have reported unexplained audio anomalies - such as the sound of trumpets or even unintelligible voices, being heard with no apparent origin. One explanation for this has been atmospheric activity resulting from solar flares, sunspots, or charged particle bursts affecting the earth’s magnetic field. Following is a picture of a normal magnetic field level as seen locally - Simi Valley, CA (Click On Image To Enlarge).

(Typical Output)

Next is a picture showing a sort of sine wave in the field. This could support the idea that the anomalous sounds are being generated by magnetic and/or charged particle bursts from the sun. This frequency (anywhere from 15 to 20 Hertz) has been observed to occur apparently randomly (in time and place) and would certainly seem too support the theory that the anomalous atmospheric sounds are being caused by magnetic/electrical energy from the sun (Click On Image To Enlarge).

Does anybody out there have theories or ideas? I would be very happy to share all of my information (there is much more available) including my data collection setup in order to gather more information on the subject. Also note in another post in this blog (Exploring Magnetism) there is discussion of different anomalies in the earth’s magnetic field indicating an approximately 70% accuracy corresponding to earthquake prediction. Please share your ideas. I’ve been trying to start up a discussion group to come up with ideas of what’s going on. You don’t need to be an expert on the subject or even have any background or education of any kind to participate in this study. If you do have some expertise, that certainly would be appreciated.
In any case, something as yet unexplained is going on. If we can get enough people with open minds and interest, perhaps something new may be discovered.

There's more to come on this page. These are just a few examples to start with.

An earthquake occurred at approximately 15:45 on Sunday, April 04, 2010. Data collection files show anomalies starting April 1 at midnight. See graph below. The actual quake was 7.2 centered in Mexicali. This data was collected in Simi Valley, CA USA

June 10, 2012 - Latest Activity May Indicate Magnetic Field

Latest Magnetic Field Activity Update Appears To Indicate Returning To "Normal"

June 9 shows some more minor activity - even though it's not completely there yet, it looks like things may be returning to "normal". Below, the graphs show (top) the full 24 hours followed by (middle) a close-up of the general section where things seem to drop to a more typical level - which is still stable as of June 10. The (bottom) graph shows a 10 second period of the low frequency ripple that started showing up a few months ago.

(All time references are in PST)

The frequency of these ripples is right around 20 Hz with an amplitude of approximately 0.3 Gauss p-p (min ~ 0.25 Gauss to max ~ 0.55 Gauss). They appeared 3 times on June 9 - 15:13:50 to 15:17:12, 15:29:38 to 15:31:38, and 18:10:11 to 18:15:46. When the field is "normal" there is a noise mixed in, which when analyzed with the Fast Fourier transform (FFT), consistently breaks down to the Schumann Resonant Frequencies.

*What to make of it all - this is definitely unusual behavior in the magnetic field.*

Recent activity from June 1 Through 6. Seems like a lot of little quakes and some strange weather. Trying to keep this as up to date as possible. Something very unusual is going on. But what?

This has been the strangest period of activity on the magnetic field since (my personal) observation began somewhere around 2007 -2008. From May 19 through today, May 27 the local magnetic field has remained unstable. Past observations would indicate some local earthquake activity should've happened by now, but so far (thankfully) all remains quiet. It sure would be nice if someone out there had some info to share.

There's been a big spike in the local magnetic field that started around 4:00 P.M. (16:00 Pacific) today (May 19, 2012). In the past this has been followed by an earthquake with 24 to 72 hours. It appears that there's going to be a major quake coming (more details below).

Normally the graph is just a fairly flat line just a little above or below 0.5 Gauss - these fluctuations are very unusual (the top half of the graph is the actual level - the bottom is the noise mixed in with it).

May 19 to 20 - Note section around the middle with variations lasting approximately 9 hours then leveling off at an abnormally high level. The field appears to have returned to typical levels around 1:00 P.M. local (13:00 Pacific). Click on any photo to enlarge.

Past observations suggest that the length of time that the anomaly lasts gives an idea of the potential magnitude - the longer it it remains unstable, the stronger the quake. The amplitude seems to indicate distance from the potential epicenter - the higher the amplitude, the closer the epicenter. The main thing is that this shows an extremely high probability that there will be a major quake sometime between late afternoon May 20, 2012 and early evening May 22, 2012 (There are more examples of previous anomalies posted in this blog - the study has been going on for a number of years). The probable location is Southern CA, USA. This is all based on previous observation of similar anomalies.

This data was collected in Simi Valley, CA.

As a special note, the following information comes from Spaceweather.com (note that the time coincides with the magnetic anomaly discussed in this post):

INTERPLANETARY SHOCK WAVE: An interplanetary shock wave possibly associated with the M5-class solar flare of May 17th swept past Earth on *May 20th around 0200 UT. The shock's arrival caused geomagnetic activity around the poles, and several outbreaks of high-latitude auroras.

*May 19, 2012, 19:00 Pacific - The anomaly started in Simi Valley, CA at approximately 16:00.
